It seems to melt fairly uniformly, and the included instructions taught me how to create perfectly clear ice balls, so I know they are 100% clean and look like little ice globes! COULDN'T BE HAPPIER!"

"We use them in drinks, as snacks, and even for a game of mini outdoor bowling! :) And the customer service emails after the purchase are great! Would definitely recommend!!"

"Good product fun to use it and drink with friends watching Star Trek"

"My wife loved using them. They were a gift for Christmas."

"These ice balls work great! They're awesome when you want a cool drink at night with style!!! Love them!!! :)"

"These molds are wonderful! We have saved a fortune already in not having to buy "gourmet ice" from the local store. Keeps drinks "ice" cold!"

These ice ball moulds enable you to make perfectly spherical dense ice balls for your drinks.

In the box you get –

    – Two food grade silicone balls
    – The instructions are on the back of the box

The silicone balls are food grade so there’s no nasty chemicals in here, they’re safe! They are very well made and are quite thick with a bit of weight to them. Each ball is made up of two halves and there is a 1cm hole in the top of the ball.

    In use –

You simply fill the ball with water through the hole in the top. Leave about 1cm of the ball empty to allow for expansion. Just pop them in the freezer for a few hours (overnight for best results) and take out when required.

The two silicone halves come away from the ice ball easy enough leaving you with a 2.5 inch solid ice ball! Quite some size and of course they don’t melt quickly like a boring old ice cube. So rather than diluting your drink they will keep it chilled.

    They look brilliant!

I’ve tried orange juice, Cola and lemonade. You could put a stick through the hole to make an ice lolly during the summer months! These will also come in handy for bowls of punch which my kids love to make.

You could also put slices of lemon or lime or a strawberry inside the ball before filling and freezing for a quirky ice ball!

Here’s a tip for any home cooks out there –
If you make soups . . . To skim the fat off the top, put one of these ice balls in a ladel and slowly move the bottom of the ladel across the top of the soup. Most of the fat will stick to the underside of the ladel for removal!

I’m also wondering if I can use them in cooking seeing as they’re food grade silicone. I was thinking of lining both halves with a ginger buscuit base, refrigerating the ball, putting them together and injecting cheesecake mixture through the hole then sealing the hole with more buscuit. Stick em in the fridge overnight and we should have a cheesecake ball!?

    It just might work 🙂

Being silicone they are easy to clean and should last for years too!

I was kindly sent these ice ball moulds by the manufacturer to test and review.

I received one of these direct from the company to try out. They have not asked for or suggested that I write a favourable review, they have left me to write what I want good or bad.

I didn’t realise just how big these were going to be, they are a good fist sized chunk of ice, so they are not going to be suitable for small snifter glasses and they may not fit in some hi-ball glasses.

They are very easy to use. Just push the two halves together and fill them through the hole in the top. Leave a gap as ice expands and will grow to fill the space. Initially I thought that they would leak through the seam, but they seal up perfectly. As these don’t fit on the ice tray in the freezer, you will need to make some space in the main compartment and be careful nothing knocks them over. The base is flattened, so they won’t roll around.

When frozen they can be a bit tricky to prise apart, but running some water over them helps. You then have a huge ice ball for your drink. I found that if my drink was room temperature then these don’t cool the drink down very fast as the surface area is less than the equivalent amount of water in ice cubes. Less surface area = longer cool time, but the drink doesn’t get watered down as fast. If your drink is cold to start with, then this can keep it cold without watering it down too much. It is pretty much a trade off and down to what you want from your drink.

I like these as I have cold drinks from the fridge that I don’t like getting watered down. The ice ball (though smaller) is still in my glass at the end and it has maintained the fridge temperature throughout. They are great fun and look good for parties.

Just a couple of points, make sure you wash them thoroughly before use. I only rinsed mine and noticed tiny bits of silicone in my drink after the first few uses. This is my own fault as there are bound to be bits of debris from the manufacturing of them. Don’t try reassembling and filling them immediately after removing the ice ball. When cold the silicone is harder and doesn’t seal as well. Let them warm up so they become supple again.

I think these are great and are going to be a big hit in the summer (will have to bag some up in advance). However, they are not a replacement for ice cubes when you just want a single cube in a single shot whisky.

The molds are easy to use and make really great big ice ballsl. I made frozen orange juice ice spheres and put them in a cocktail I made up for a Waterloo anniversary dinner. Twelve pounder punch (named after the calibre of cannons on the battle field) looked really cool and was delicious: champagne, Napoleon brandy and Napoleon mandarin liqueur and giant orange juice balls that melted slowly adding flavour as they did so…
